The scene has irked the Karnataka health department and Karnataka Anti-Tobacco Cell (KATC).

The Karnataka health department has raised objections with regard to a viral scene from the teaser of KGF Chapter 2 where the leading man, Yash, is seen lighting a cigarette with the hot barrel of a gun. As reported by the news agency Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), the department has issued a show-cause notice to the actor, who plays the character Rocky in the film.
“Both the teaser and the posters encourage cigarette smoking. Yash, you are a heart-throb and you have an immense fan following. Your actions should not mislead the youngsters. We want you to join our campaign against cigarette smoking,” said an excerpt from the notice.
The department also pointed out that the statutory warning ‘Cigarette smoking is injurious to health’ was also missing from the teaser.
But that’s not all. The Karnataka Anti-Tobacco Cell (KARC) has also slammed the same scene. As per IANS, it has written a letter to the health department and stated that the scene violates Section 5 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act 2003. The KARC has demanded that the scene be deleted from the teaser.
“The actor has a large number of fans, particularly among the youth. If he smokes [on screen], people will emulate him. So, we are asking them to remove the teaser from the online platforms and also the posters of the movie,” read the letter, which is also addressed to the film’s director Prashanth Neel, producer Vijay Kiragandur and the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce.
The film is the sequel to the 2018 movie KGF Chapter 1.
