Four films from Bangladesh to be screened at International Film Festival of India


The 51st edition of the festival is being held in a hybrid format from 16 to 24 January.

The organizers of the 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI) have announced that Bangladesh will be the country of focus at the event. The special section focuses on films from a particular country and showcases them at the festival.

Four films from the country will be part of the section: Jibondhuli (2014) by Tanvir Mokammel, Meghmallar (2014) by Zahidur Rahim Anjan, Under Construction (2015) by Rubaiyat Hossain, and the anthology film Sincerely Yours, Dhaka (2018). 

Meghmallar is centred on an ordinary family and its experiences during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. Jibondhuli is set during the conflict. Under Construction tells the story of an actress who is stifled by the traditional expectations of society and reconstructs a play while expressing her emotions. While the anthology is a collection of short films centered around the capital city of Dhaka. It has been directed by eleven filmmakers and the film was also the official entry from the country for the 93rd Academy Awards.
