Nagraj Manjule's Jhund (2021) is set to be released in theatres on 18 June. The film, featuring Amitabh Bachchan, is based on the life of Vijay Barse, founder of Slum Soccer, a non-governmental organization in Nagpur offering opportunities for poor children and teens through football.

The announcement was shared by the film's lead, Amitabh Bachchan, on social media.

The film was announced back in 2017 but has faced quite a few roadblocks on the way. Initially, it was supposed to be completed and released in theatres on 20 September 2019. However, the makers got embroiled in a copyright dispute, subject to which a civil court in Telangana ordered a stay on the film. The makers approached the Supreme Court in October 2020, but the court refused to lift the stay.

However, the Supreme Court ordered the lower court in Telangana to dispose of the matter within six months. It is not yet unconfirmed if the case has been dismissed or settled outside court.

The film's theatrical release will precede that of the Yash Raj Films production Shamshera, which is set to be released the following weekend on 25 June 2021.

Jhund is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Raaj Hiremath, Savita Raj Hiremath, Nagraj Manjule, Gargee Kulkarni, Sandip Ssingh and Meenu Aroraa under the banner of T-Series, Tandav Films Entertainment and Aatpat.
