Adarsh Gourav has been named the top breakout star on IMDb's annual year-end list of stars.

The young actor starred in the Netflix film The White Tiger (2021) and the second season of the Amazon Prime Video series Hostel Daze (2021).

This year, Gourav joined the cast of Excel Entertainment's Kho Gaye Hum Kahan (2022) with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday and the international project Extrapolations, an Apple TV+ series which features artistes Meryl Streep, Kit Harrington and others.

The top 10 list also features Ashlesha Thakur of The Family Man series at number two, followed by actress Malavika Mohanan at three and National award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee at number four.

Kritika Kamra, who was seen in Amazon Prime Video’s Tandav, clocks in at number five while Shahana Goswami of Netflix’s Bombay Begums is listed at number six.

Sunny Hinduja of TVF’s Aspirants and The Family Man takes the seventh position while Haseen Dillruba (2021) star Vikrant Massey is listed at number eight.

Actresses Ahsaas Channa and Sai Tamhankar come in at numbers nine and ten, respectively.

This is the second year that the online movie database is recognizing stars in the Indian digital space. The rankings for IMDbPro STARmeter are determined by the data on actual page views by IMDb users around the world.

“Fans around the world turn to IMDb to discover and decide what to watch and learn more about the stars of their new favourite shows and movies,” Yaminie Patodia, India head of the database, said of the list. “We congratulate Adarsh as our newest recipient of an IMDb STARmeter award and on his breakout success this year and look forward to watching his career grow.”

Gourav was presented the trophy at his home in Mumbai. In his acceptance speech, the actor thanked IMDb and said, “This really means the world to me. And to the [fans] who have taken the precious time to review my films and write testimonials about my performances.

"The first time I used IMDb was when I was 15, and ever since I have been an avid IMDb user — in fact, I use it every time I watch a movie, to read the reviews and see what kind of ratings a movie has. So, thank you IMDb for making the experience of watching movies so enjoyable, and making it so accessible to decide the kind of movies we want to watch.”

He added, “It is also very special to me because Priyanka Chopra, who is my co-actor in The White Tiger, was also given a STARmeter award a few years ago, and now I can share the stage with her when it comes to receiving this award.”
