Bringing to mind the old saying that if the mountain won’t come to Mohammed, then Mohammed must go to the mountain, the plot of the upcoming Netflix family drama Sardar Ka Grandson (2021) revolves around a man who attempts to bring his Amritsar-based grandmother’s Lahore home to her.

Arjun Kapoor plays the grandson, an NRI who comes up with fanciful ideas to fulfil his grandmother’s last wish. Sardar (Neena Gupta) wants to return to her old home in Lahore which she built with her late husband.

But when the Pakistani government denies her a visa, her grandson conspires to bring her home to her in Amritsar. The rest of the family thinks it is a terrible idea, but Kapoor soldiers on, wanting to make Sardar’s dream come true.

Aditi Rao Hydari plays the younger version of Sardar in flashbacks with co-producer John Abraham making a special appearance as well. Rakul Preet Singh, Soni Razdan, Kanwaljit Singh, Kumud Mishra and Divya Seth are also part of the cast.

Kaashvie Nair makes her directorial debut with the film, co-written with Anuja Chauhan. Sardar Ka Grandson is due to be released on Netflix on 18 May.
