Alia Bhatt is the latest victim of the novel coronavirus in the film industry. The actress revealed late last night with an Instagram Story post that she had tested positive for COVID-19.

She said, "Hello all. I have tested positive for COVID-19. I have immediately isolated myself and will be under home quarantine. I am following all safety protocols under the advice of my doctors. [I am] grateful for all your love and support. Please stay safe and take care."

On 9 March, Bhatt's Brahmastra co-star and boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor had tested positive for COVID-19. At that time, too, Bhatt had isolated herself to be safe.

At the beginning of March, there were reports about filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali testing positive for COVID-19, but there was no confirmation. Bhatt is currently shooting for Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi.

The COVID-19 situation seems to be spiralling out of control in Maharashtra, especially in Mumbai. Yesterday, the state recorded over 43,000 fresh cases, which is its highest tally since the start of the pandemic last year. And a large number of film industry people, including stars, are testing positive.
