The Window Production House-backed Lokkhi Chhele is all set to be screened at the RapidLion South African International Film Festival. Directed by the National award-winning director Kaushik Ganguly, the film stars his son Ujaan Ganguly, Churni Ganguly and Ambarish Bhattacharya.

Lokkhi Chhele is the only Indian film to be showcased at the festival this year. The film, which is yet to be released in India, had its world premiere at the Heartland International Film Festival in October 2020.

A statement from the makers read, “The film is a story of a young doctor fighting the dark side of blind religious belief and its stubbornness to abolish the inhuman practice. The story presents a beautiful amalgamation of human emotions and mindset (sic).”

Excited at the news, Ujaan said in a statement, “It is a great blessing to be able to achieve such an honour so early in my career. Lokkhi Chhele is an extremely special film, with a story that needs to be told and I am glad it is reaching a varied and wider audience with the premiere at RapidLion.”

Kaushik is happy that the film is reaching a global audience. “Lokkhi Chele presents a deeper insight into the beliefs and ideologies of society, which is a reflection of human behaviour across the globe. While we eagerly await its release in India, I am glad that the story is making its way to an international audience,” he said.

Actor-filmmaker and co-founder of Windows Production House Shiboprosad Mukherjee said the banner was consciously making an attempt to present stories that make a difference. "It is extremely gratifying to witness our film receiving acceptance in the international markets of South Africa with RapidLion. Being the only Indian film to be premiered at the film festival this year, we are immensely proud of the entire team of Lokkhi Chhele, which has relentlessly worked to deliver such fine content,” he said.
