According to Devgn’s publicist, the cause of his brother's death is a 'brief illness'.

Filmmaker Anil Devgan, brother of actor Ajay Devgn, died on Monday night.
According to Devgn’s publicist, Devgan was 51 and the cause of his death is a “brief illness”.
Sharing a picture of his brother, Devgn tweeted on Tuesday, “I lost my brother Anil Devgan last night. His untimely demise has left our family heartbroken. ADFF [Ajay Devgn Ffilms] and I will miss his presence dearly. Pray for his soul. Due to the pandemic, we will not have a personal prayer meet.”

Devgan directed films such as Raju Chacha (2000), Blackmail (2005) and Haal-e-Dil (2008). The first two had Devgn playing the lead. He was the creative director in Devgan’s Son Of Sardaar (2012).
In the 1990s, Devgan was the assistant director in a number of popular films such as Phool Aur Kaante (1991), Platform (1993), Jaan (1996), Jeet (1996), Itihaas (1997), Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998) and Hindustan Ki Kasam (1999).
