A man returns to his village bringing his wife and young daughter with him, not knowing that some sinister spirit will envelop them. The first trailer of Terrie Samundra’s Kaali Khuhi (2020) sets up a spooky thriller in which the past secrets surrounding a village threaten its residents.

Young Riva Arora is 10-year-old Shivangi, who is unsure why her family has relocated to live with her grandmother (Shabana Azmi) who is said to be sick. Her parents, played by Satyadeep Mishra and Sanjeeda Sheikh, aren’t on the same page with the move.

Pretty soon, Shivangi feels herself being stalked by a young girl, leading to the unearthing of a long-held curse and some uncomfortable truths about female infanticide of which the entire village is a part. The burden falls on her young shoulders to save her family and make it out alive.

Produced by Anku Pande and Ramon Chibb, Kaali Khuhi is due to be released on Netflix on 30 October.
