‘Le Chhalaang’ song: Rajkummar Rao motivates his team in this sports number

This is yet another title song sung by Daler Mehndi.

Keyur Seta

The trailer for Hansal Mehta’s Chhalaang (2020) had an element of romance which goes on to develop into a love triangle. But the film is also about sports with the characters of Rajkummar Rao and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub rivals in a sporting challenge. And when a sporting challenge becomes a crucial part of a film's plot, it is but obvious that the film will have a motivational track for the good guys. ‘Le Chhalaang’ is that song for Chhalaang.

Daler Mehndi has become something of a title song specialist in Hindi cinema in recent years after doing the same in films like Mirzya (2016), Dangal (2016), Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) and Gold (2018), and he does the same for Chhalaang. So, the song does feel a bit repetitive, but that isn't really a problem.

Apart from Daler Mehndi’s energetic voice, Hitesh Sonik’s powerful music and Luv Ranjan’s sensible words succeed in creating the desired effect.

The visuals are a major plus point for the song. It is pleasing to see schoolchildren making the most of whatever resources are available in their village.

Like in the trailer, Rajkummar Rao is impressive as an unusual physical training (PT) teacher. We get a few flashes of Mohammed Zeeshad Ayyub also training his boys. Nushrat Bharucha does not feature in the song.

Chhalaang will be released on 13 November on Amazon Prime Video. Watch the song and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
