Earlier this month, the makers of Gulabo Sitabo (2020) and Shakuntala Devi (2020) decided to release their films directly on OTT platforms following the countrywide lockdown brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the makers of the Marathi movie Parinati (2020), featuring Amruta Subhash, Sonalee Kulkarni and Akshar Kothari, have decided to do the same.

Parinati will be the first Marathi film to be released directly online. Directed by first-time filmmaker Akshay Balsaraf, Parinati is produced by Paragg Mehta, who has been a casting director for many years.

Speaking about the digital release of the film, Mehta said in an official statement, “As we all know, major Hindi films have taken the step of releasing their films on OTT platforms. The current situation in the market is such that regional films will also have to depend on OTT platforms. For this we also need to present good content to the audience. We had this option in front of us. And with the rise in digital formats, someone had to take the first step and I have done that.”

Coming to the release of the film, he said, “We are in talks with a few OTT platforms and the response has been positive till now. We will soon share the details about the release of our film.”
