On 60th birthday, Mohanlal officially announces Drishyam sequel


The actor posted a video on Twitter announcing the project to be directed by Jeethu Joseph.

Actor Mohanlal, who turned 60 today, officially announced Drishyam 2 on Twitter. The actor posted a video on the social media platform, where he announced the sequel to the Jeethu Joseph-directed Drishyam (2013).

Jeethu Joseph will also direct the sequel which will be produced by Antony Perumbavoor. The rest of the cast and crew will be announced soon.

Drishyam, which is the story of a father covering up a murder to save his family, was the first Malayalam film to gross over Rs50 crore.

Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph recently joined hands for the Malayalam thriller, Ram (2020). The project, which also stars Trisha Krishnan, was officially launched last December. The makers of Ram even released a title poster when the project was announced.

In a recent media interaction, Jeethu Joseph revealed that he is going to put Ram on hold and finish working on another project in the interim. As per reports, this new project will be Drishyam 2, and it will go on the floors as soon as the Kerala government grants permission to commence shooting.

Mohanlal was seen recently on the big screen in Big Brother (2020) and Lucifer (2019), which also has a sequel in the pipeline. Lucifer was the first Malayalam film to gross over Rs200 crore worldwide. A political thriller, the film saw Mohanlal play a character called Stephen Nedumpally. The film also marked the directorial debut of popular actor Prithviraj Sukumaran.
