Anurag Kashyap's Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai (2020) becomes the latest film to head straight for a digital release, following in the wake of a growing number of mid-sized films which are approaching OTT platforms to secure a release in the lockdown.

Featuring Saiyami Kher and Roshan Mathew, Choked will be streamed on Netflix from 5 June onwards.

The first look of the film features Kher as a housewife taking the foreground while Mathew lingers in the background. The film marks Malayalam actor Roshan Mathew's Hindi film debut and a return to direction for Kashyap after Manmarziyaan (2018).

Kher reportedly plays a bank cashier, Sarita Pillai, who has to provide for her family as her husband, Sushant, struggles to make it as a musician.

Row over digital releases: This too shall pass, say industry insiders

Speaking to the Mid-Day newspaper, Kashyap said, "The film is close to my heart. It is about relationships and the precarious balance between truth, power and money. It is the story of a strong-willed middle-class housewife who finds cash flowing out of her kitchen sink every night and how it changes her life."

The film is written by Nihit Bhave. In addition to Kher and Mathew, the film will feature popular Marathi artistes Upendra Limaye and Amruta Subhash in supporting roles.
