Director Rohit Shetty was in no mood to speak on the horrors of the recent violence in Delhi at the trailer launch of his upcoming film, Sooryavanshi.

Accompanied by artistes Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh and producer Karan Johar on stage, Shetty insisted, "The best thing for all of us to do would be to stay quiet."

Asked for his opinion on the violence by reporters, the director said, "That is a little serious issue. A lot of people are talking about it. The best thing for all of us to do would be to stay quiet. Our officials, government, are working on that."

Shetty added that it would be callous of him to hold forth on the issue while ensconced in the comfortable confines of a film event in Mumbai. "Here, in Mumbai, we can't talk about it in fun or at events like these," he said. "The best thing is to stay quiet. If people keep talking about it, the chaos will keep spreading."

The Delhi riots began on 23 February in the northeastern suburbs of the national capital. The riots have claimed 46 lives and left more than 200 people injured. So far, 630 people have been arrested and 123 FIRs (first information reports) have been lodged by the Delhi police.

Shetty continued, "I can easily give a lecture on it. It will get me some benefit on social media. But it is better to keep quiet. The people who are suffering, that needs to be sorted out. Then we can speak our minds on it."

Shetty's film features Akshay Kumar as a police officer who heads the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and is trying to avert another attack on Mumbai.

The film also features Katrina Kaif and Jackie Shroff and will see Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh make cameo appearances. Sooryavanshi is backed by Rohit Shetty Picturez and Dharma Productions. The film is set to be released on 24 March.
