Originally, both films were to be released on 2 October. But now that date is reserved for the Ranveer Singh-starrer, while Farhan Akhtar's film will be released on 18 September.

Ranveer Singh’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Farhan Akhtar’s Toofan are among two of the most anticipated films of this year. Backed by big production houses, YRF and Excel Entertainment respectively, a lot is riding on them. So it was deemed unwise to release both films on the same day as they would eat into each other’s business.

Taking this into consideration, the filmmakers have decided to change the release date of their films in order to give both films a proper release window. Both production houses shared the news on their twitter handle.

Excel Entertainment’s Toofan, starring Farhan Akhtar and Mrunal Thakur, which was scheduled to be released on 2 October, will now be released on 18 September. Meanwhile, YRF’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar starring Ranveer Singh and Shalini Pandey will be released on 2 October, vacated by Toofan.

It's rare for a production house to give away a holiday and opt for a normal Friday to release their film. The opposite generally happens.

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Toofan is a sports drama about a national-level boxer played by Akhtar, while Jayeshbhai Jordaar is a comic drama by debutant director Divyang Thakkar.
