Angrezi Medium song 'Laadki': Rekha Bhardwaj sings a moving tribute to the daughters of the world

The 'Laadki' song has been composed by Sachin-Jigar while the lyrics are by Priya Saraiya.

The lovely trailer for Angrezi Medium was infectious enough without a heavy, emotionally driven soundtrack. The latest song from the film, 'Laadki', captures the pain of separation between parent and daughter with lyrics that tug at the heartstrings. Sung by Rekha Bhardwaj, the song has been picturized on Kareena Kapoor Khan, who plays a key role in the Homi Adajania film.

The song begins with Irrfan Khan's familiar voice describing the relationship between fathers and daughters. 'They hold on to our hands when they are little for fear of getting lost," he says, "But when they finally let go, it is we who feel lost."

The sentence captures the emotion running through the song composed by Sachin-Jigar. A wonderfully slow composition, the song begins with a very traditional Rajasthani folk feel. Beginning with the smooth shehnai, the song flows into the textured voice of Bhardwaj, which suits the composition and its style quite well.

Priya Saraiya's lyrics capture the worry, the love, and the anxiety of a parent on the eve of losing her daughter. While the daughter prepares to take her first big step by herself, the parent is the one feeling the anxiety of being left alone.

The visuals predominantly focus on Kapoor Khan, although they begin with the sight of Irrfan's father walking out of the hospital with his daughter. Kapoor Khan plays a cop who seems to be having a tiff with her own mother, played by Dimple Kapadia.

Angrezi Medium is directed by Homi Adajania and features Irrfan Khan, Radhika Madan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepak Dobriyal and Dimple Kapadia in key roles. The film is set for release in theatres on 13 March.
