Talent agents now allowed to vote for Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) have implemented a lot of changes this year in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Yesterday, they announced more significant change, as the board governors have voted to allow "artists representatives" aka talent agents to vote for the Oscars.
Previously, the agents were only associate members, without any voting privileges. They will now be a part of the Academy's members-at-large branch which also have voting rights. Future agents who are invited to join will be part of the members-at-large branch as well.
This move will likely spark some controversy as some argue that personal or professional bias can come into account. However, there are public relations specialists who are one part of the Academy's 17 branches, and are allowed to vote. In recent years, the Academy has been expanding their membership to increase the number of women and people of colour, and therefore this might one part of their strategy.
Later this week, the Academy is expected to invite new members to its organisation.
