Actor Ajay Devgn will be seen playing a freedom fighter and the mentor of the characters essayed by Jr NTR and Ram Charan in SS Rajamouli’s upcoming magnum opus RRR, or Roudram Ranam Rudhiram (2021).
According to a report by Cinema Express, Devgn will be seen playing a freedom fighter and the duo’s mentor in the film. His cameo will only appear in the flashback sequences. It is believed that the actor agreed to work in the movie free of cost because of his friendship with Rajamouli. He had earlier been associated with the the filmmaker's Eega (2012), in which he had done a voice-over for the Hindi dubbed version.
This project will see Devgn make his debut in Telugu films along with actress Alia Bhatt, who is also part of the project. Actress Shriya Saran has been signed on opposite Devgn. The two last appeared together in Drishyam (2015).
In a press meet last March, Rajamouli had said: “RRR” will be a fictional story set in 1920s pre-independent era and it will be based on few years in the lives of two real heroes and well-known revolutionaries – Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem."
Jr NTR will be seen as Komaram Bheem while Ram Charan will be playing Alluri Sitharama Raju. It is rumoured that the duo will play brothers in the modern day portion and will be seen as Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju in the period portion, which will be in flashback.
Just last week, a trial shoot of the film was cancelled in the wake of a spike in COVID-19 cases in Hyderabad. According to producer DVV Danayya, 25% of the film is still to be shot.
RRR will release worldwide on January 8, 2021 in 10 Indian languages. Presented by D Parvathy, the film is being produced under the DVV Entertainments banner by Danayya.
