Amongst the industries that have been hard hit during this coronavirus pandemic, the theatre industry has a bleak future ahead with large gatherings banned to maintain physical distancing. To ensure the support staff and technicians behind the scenes are taken care of during these challenging times, Zee Theatre has partnered with the Give India Foundation to raise funds for them.

Theatre artistes like Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Rakesh Bedi, Makarand Deshpande, Divya Dutta, Aahana Kumra and Shikha Talsania have all come out to extend support for them and their fundamental contribution to the theatre experience. They have made a campaign video for this very cause, with a special poem by actor-lyricist Amitosh Nagpal, to put across the theatre community’s unified sentiment.

The campaign video is now playing on Tata Sky Theatre, Airtel Spotlight, Dish TV and D2H Rangamanch Active.

Kumra said, “My heart goes out to each person in the theatre industry who is going through these tough times. Our community has always been close-knit and we need all the support we can get. I am more than happy to do my bit for the people who have made me everything I am today. Zee Theatre’s initiative will be a wonderful and an effective way to accomplish what theatre needs right now, which is unending support.”

Veteran actor Bedi added, “Through the 40 years of my career I have seen theatre grow and flourish in the face of a number of challenges. But my faith remains that the industry will figure its way out of this setback as well. I am more than happy to do my part and aid Zee Theatre in this initiative. It’s an opportunity for me to give back to the stage that I love so much, and I hope this fundraiser sees the success it deserves. It is important that people unite to support the foundations of the theatre community.”
