Shah Rukh Khan's Meer Foundation sends out help to orphaned child at Muzaffarpur station


A video of the child trying to wake up his mother, who had already died due to starvation, went viral over the internet.

Shah Rukh Khan's Meer Foundation has stepped forward to offer help to a helpless child who lost his mother. The video of the toddler trying to wake up his mother, who had aready died due to starvation at the Muzaffarpur railway station, went viral on the internet.

The foundation has confirmed that the child is now in the safe custody of his grandparents. 

Khan and the Meer Foundation have made contributions to support the ongoing fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The actor tweeted his thanks to people who helped him reach out and find the child. 

The actor, through his group of companies, and the Meer Foundation had announced several initiatives to help the under-privileged get through the lockdown and its economic struggle. These include letting out office space to be used as quarantine zones, donating 25,000 PPE kits for medical workers in Maharashtra, as well as donating money through the Kolkata Knight Riders to help the cyclone-affected in West Bengal. 

The video of the helpless toddler was one of the more shocking events to come out in the migrant crisis caused by the lockdown. The Patna High Court took suo moto cognisance of the video with the bench of chief justice Sanjay Karol and justice S Kumar saying, "This warrants intervention by us in exercise of our jurisdiction under Article 226 of the Constitution of India and as such we take suo motu cognizance of the news item and issue notice."
