Freida Pinto's next film has the actress going back in time. She joins actress Constance Wu and actors Sam Heughan and Sope Dirisu in the cast of the period romance Mr Malcolm's List.

Pinto and Dirisu had acted in the short film, directed by Emma Holly Jones, which received over a million views on YouTube. The feature film will be written by Suzanne Allain, who has based the script on her novel which will be published on 28 July by Berkley Press.

Filming is only expected to begin next spring in Ireland because of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Both Wu and Pinto will also be acting as executive producers on the project.

According to a report in Variety magazine, Mr Malcolm's List is produced by Untitled Entertainment’s Laura Rister, Rebelle Media’s Laura Lewis, Blinder Films’ Katie Holly and Emma Holly Jones.

In the romantic comedy, Dirisu plays eligible bachelor Mr Malcolm who rejects Julia (Wu) as a potential partner as he feels she fails to measure up to his 'list' of requirements in a woman.

Julia then decides to take revenge by inviting her friend Selina (Pinto) to town and setting her and Mr Malcolm as the perfect match.

But her plan goes awry when two others, Henry (Heughan) and Lord Cassidy (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), also get involved in the romantic entanglements. Will Julia be able to pull one over Mr Malcolm?

Allain's script was highly rated by The Black List website, which highlights promising scripts that have yet to be made. With a diverse cast, Mr Malcolm's List is eagerly awaited.
