Social media trolling is not new for film stars. Most have got used to it by now and consider it an occupational hazard. But every now and then some netizens cross a line and make personal remarks without checking their facts.
Kriti Sanon was subjected to such trolling two days ago for not posting any condolence message on the death by suicide of her Raabta (2017) co-star Sushant Singh Rajput.
On Wednesday, Sanon responded to the trolling as well as the media's insensitive coverage of Rajput's death in a long post on Intstagram. The actress called out people who harass others for not putting up condolence messages immediately on the death of a loved one.

Calling social media the "fakest, most toxic" place, Sanon said, "It's strange that the otherwise trolling, gossiping world suddenly wakes up to your niceness and positive side once you are gone. Social media is the fakest, most toxic place. And if you haven't posted RIP or said something publicly, you are considered not to be grieving, when in reality, those are the people grieving for real," she commented.
Sanon also criticized the news media for their insensitive attitude in seeking reactions and pictures from grieving persons. She also called for making so-called 'blind' news reports and snippets, which usually share gossip about unnamed celebrities who are identified only with hints, illegal as it causes mental anguish to many and ended by stressing on the importance of mental health and healing.
Immediately after Sushant Singh Rajput's death on 14 June, condolence messages started pouring in from Hindi as well as other regional film industries on social media. But some of his co-stars like Sanon from Raabta and Shraddha Kapoor from Chhichhore (2019) did not post any message, infuriating some netizens who started trolling them and calling them fake friends.
The trolling stopped the next day when it was found that Sanon and Kapoor were among the few film personalities who attended Rajput's funeral while all those who had been posting emotional messages were nowhere to be seen.
