Actor Ratan Chopra, who played the leading man in the film Mome Ki Gudiya (1972), died on Friday 12 June. He was ailing for some time and had been diagnosed with cancer.
Hailing from Malerkotla in Punjab, Chopra completed his studies from Punjab University in Patiala and, later, in Chandigarh.
Mome Ki Gudiya was his debut film where he starred alongside Tanuja and Jeevan. The film was directed by Mohan Kumar, who chose Chopra as he was looking for a fresh face.
Though Chopra was offered a few films after his debut, he had a short stint in cinema as it is believed that his family was not in favour of the profession.
He eventually left Bombay and returned to Punjab where he became a teacher. Chopra was not married and was living alone.
