Actor Jagesh Mukati died in Mumbai on Wednesday due to complications arising from asthma and obesity. He was 47.

Mukati worked in several Hindi and Gujarati television shows and movies. He played a supporting role in last year’s successful Gujarati film, Chal Jeevi Laiye! (2019). He was also a part of the Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra-starrer, Hasee Toh Phasee (2014)

Mukati’s most notable work was in the 1997 Hindi television series, Om Namah Shivay where he played Ganesha in more than 200 episodes. Few years later, he also played Ganesha in the Hindi television serial Shree Ganesh.

Actor Sanjay Goradia told The Indian Express newspaper that Mukati was hospitalized last week. “Jagesh was hospitalised on Friday last week, but he never told anyone about it because he didn’t want anybody to be stressed, especially because there is so much worry about COVID-19 these days,” he said.

Speaking about his health issues, Goradia said, “Jagesh had asthma and obesity-related health issues for many years. He was working out and dieting, but then the lockdown began and he couldn’t continue his work-out. So his asthma started getting worse."

He added, "Last week, when Jagesh got breathless, he was taken to CritiCare hospital in Juhu. His oxygen level was low. He was tested for COVID-19 because that’s the protocol. His tests results came negative. Yesterday, suddenly he got an asthma attack and was kept on a ventilator. Later in the day, he passed away. He was only 47 years old.”
