The COVID-19 lockdown has inspired various celebrities to put up videos with messages saying that we will sail through this period and good days will return. But actress Taapsee Pannu narrates a reality check through a video she recently shared on social media.

It seems as if the actress is urging the people of India to not shy away from the harsh and painful reality that has been a prominent part in the ongoing lockdown.

Pannu has put up a video with animated images of a number of disturbing and painful moments the poor people of India have gone through ever since the lockdown was imposed since late March.

The animated visuals include the ordeal of migrant workers who were forced to return to their homes, thousands of miles away, on foot, an eighth standard girl taking her father to their village on bicycle, the poor being beaten up by the cops, a child weeping besides the dead body of his mother.

Pannu solemnly recites the hard-hitting Hindi poem, Pravasi. A line that touches you the most is – Hum toh bas pravasi hain, Kya is desh ke vaasi hain? [We are just travellers. Are we citizens of this country?]

While Pannu has been praised for the video from a lot of netizens, there has also been a section of people who have criticized her as well.

The video is supported by Climb Media, Rocket Science Animation and The Sonic Laundry.
