Reliance Entertainment Group CEO Shibashish Sarkar has tested positive for COVID-19 infection and has been admitted to the Kokilaben Ambani hospital. Sarkar was diagnosed with a fever late on Saturday, 30 May, and was rushed to the hospital.

The newspaper Mumbai Mirror quoted Sarkar as saying, "Hospitalised currently in Kokilaben. But proper treatment is happening. Will recover soon."

Sarkar recently participated in a webinar to discuss the opening of theatres and the future steps to be taken by the industry. Reliance Entertainment, headed by Sarkar, has two major films, Sooryavanshi (2020) and 83 (2020), stuck in limbo because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the producer has maintained that both films will release in theatres after the lockdown.

Recently, Karan Johar and Boney Kapoor revealed that members of their household help had been infected by the pandemic. Veteran actor Kiran Kumar too tested positive, before recovering from the viral infection.
