The biopic on mathematician Shakuntala Devi, starring Vidya Balan, will have its world premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 31 July.

The film’s star, like the character she essays, announced the date in a simple yet complicated mathematics puzzle on social media.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the film was slated to be released in theatres on 8 May. The biopic, directed by Anu Menon, also stars Sanya Malhotra, Amit Sadh and Jisshu Sengupta.

Last year, while promoting Mission Mangal (2019), Vidya had shared why she chose this project: “It’s amazing for me that someone who was known as a human computer had so much fun. [Shakuntala Devi] had a crazy side to her. Or not a crazy side. Maths was the only straight side to her, which makes her so fascinating. She’s fun and I never associated maths with fun.”

Shakuntala Devi: Human Computer is produced by Sony Pictures and Abundantia Entertainment. Menon has co-written the film with Nayanika Mahtani, while Ishita Moitra has written the dialogues.
