A friend in need can’t be ignored, even if it is decades later. In Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Yaara (2020), it seems it has been years since the Chowkdi gang consisting of Phagun, Mitwa, Rizwan and Bahadur were together.
Vidyut Jammwal, Amit Sadh, Vijay Varma and Kenny Basumatary play the four felons who were fated to become fast friends. They have been committing crimes since they were children, and easily escape the law during their youth as well. But something forces them to part and, around 20 years later, when one of them is taken in by the police, the rest, led by Jammwal, are compelled to act.
The youthful portions of the film, written by Dhulia, are set in 1975, during the Emergency. When the film moves a couple of decades later, the main cast is aged for the reunion.
The action drama creates enough suspense to raise intrigue into why these friends split, and how circumstances will force them to come together again. Though the movie was filmed some years ago, the fact that it is largely set in the past works in its favour.
The casting of the four friends, Jammwal, Sadh, Varma and Basumatary, is also exciting and, hopefully, each of the actors has a substantial role. The earlier teaser revealed little about the gang, and the trailer has set out the scenario.
Yaara, which also stars Shruti Haasan and Sanjay Mishra, is due to be released on 30 July. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
