While live theatrical performances have ceased since March, and won’t likely begin in the foreseeable future, Zee Theatre's teleplays bring the theatre experience home to you. Their bank of teleplays features artistes like Divya Dutta, Ashutosh Rana, Swara Bhasker, Chandan Roy Sanyal and many others.

Many artistes keeping coming back to the stage, even as they find fame on television and film. National award-winning actress Rajeshwari Sachdev is one of them. The actress can currently be seen in Zee Theatre’s production of Double Game, a suspense thriller, wherein a married couple go up against each other in a bid to outdo one another.

In this play directed by Vijay Kenkre, Sachdev plays a wife who joins hands with her housekeeper to access her husband’s secrets. Meawhile, her husband (Kiran Karmakar) is already scheming to take over her wealth. Who will double cross each other remains to be seen.

The actress feels that at the end of the day, she will always go back to the stage. “I’ve always believed that theatre as a medium is the most challenging and exciting of all formats. It builds an unfathomable passion for an artiste for the stage and I think every actor who has been on stage develops a profound love and respect for the arts,” she said.

“When I am on stage, I know that the performance I have given in that moment is singular and unique as the next time the rendition might differ, as each time there comes a difference in perspective or the challenges of being on a different stage. That is why I love the experience so much. It has so much to explore,” she added.

Double Game, which also stars Uday Tikekar and Smita Tambe, is available this July on Airtel Spotlight.

The actress, who is also an accomplished singer, was last seen in the Marathi film Firebrand (2019) directed by Aruna Raje.
