The 17th Indian Film Festival Stuttgart will showcase a line-up of Indian films online this year from 15 through 19 July.

The festival, which is based in the capital of the southwest German province of Baden-Württemberg, is offering a festival pass for €4.99 which will let the holder watch features, shorts, and documentaries online.

The festival programme takes a deep look into the psyche of a divided society. Prateek Vats’s Eeb Allay Ooo! will be the opening film while some of the other films in the selection are Jallikkattu (2019, Malayalam) by Lijo Jose Pellissery, Kumbalangi Nights (2019, Malayalam) by Madhu C Narayanan, Uyare (2019, Malayalam) by Manu Ashokan, and A Holy Conspiracy by Saibal Mitra.

The festival will also announce the winner of the German Star of India award.

The short films chosen by the festival also highlight several topical issues. Some of the films in the programme are Frayed Lines by Priya Belliappa, Wig by Atanu Mukherjee, Apna Apna Andaz by Avishkar Bhardwaj, Gulabi Lens: La Vie En Rose by Saurabh Wakankar and Natkhat by Shaan Vyas (2020).

The feature film jury includes German director and producer Frieder Schlaich, filmmaker and LGBTQI+ activist Onir, and Céline Loop, producer of last year’s winning film Chippa (2020).

Festival director Oliver Mahn said, “The online festival was created with a lot of passion. Audiences have a special virtual cinema experience to look forward to, at an extremely favourable price and with an informative and entertaining supporting programme.”
