The first-week run of Raj Mehta's Good Newwz saw the film end up with more than its share of good news at the box office. According to figures from BoxOfficeIndia.com, Good Newwz finished its first week at the screens with Rs126 crore nett.
While the film showed good numbers on the weekend, it was the weekday collections that truly put it in the green. The film earned Rs65 crore nett on the first weekend, then went on to add Rs61 crore over the weekdays.
The film's consistency on weekdays ensured that it is already a hit. Made on a budget of about Rs70 crore, the film has shown a decent hold at the counters in the Delhi/NCR region as well as in the metros, according to BoxOfficeIndia.com.
In contrast, Salman Khan's hero vehicle Dabangg 3 continued to flounder in the new year. The film had poor second-week collections of close to Rs20 crore. Thankfully, the holiday period in the middle ensured a rise in footfalls, which were otherwise unusually low for a Salman Khan film. This takes the film's two-week collection to Rs133 crore approximately.
With the film's budget estimated to be in the region of Rs130, this is poor return indeed. According to figures on BoxOfficeIndia.com, the film has seen lower footfalls than even Tubelight, one of Khan's biggest debacles in the last decade.
Meanwhile, Mardaani 2 entered its third week in fairly good shape. The film managed to rack up Rs5 crore nett in its third week. This despite competition from Good Newwz and Dabangg 3. This takes the film's total collection at the domestic box office to Rs44 crore, and it just might reach the Rs50 crore mark.
