Mhorkya means leader. As the title suggests, the film is about the struggle one has to go through to become a leader. Here, the ambition to lead is not fuelled by a thirst for unquestioned power but by the need to prove one's worth and assert one's identity.
After a wait of two years, the National award-winning drama finally hits the big screens on 24 January. Through the trailer for the film, the makers have provided good information about the storyline. Fourteen-year-old Ashok (Raman Deokar) is a shepherd. He wishes to become leader of the school parade for the upcoming Republic Day.
But some of his fellow students are against the idea. They begin threatening him not to attend the parade. Ashok approaches an old man and a mentally unstable guy to learn what one needs to do in the parade.
In just under two minutes, the trailer perfectly captures the struggle of a boy who is doing everything he can to become a leader of the school parade. From whatever little we see of him in the trailer, Raman Deokar seems to be the find of the year for Marathi cinema. Anand Shinde’s rap fits the visuals perfectly.
Along with three National awards, Mhorkya won the Audience Choice award at the Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) in 2018. Written and directed by Amar Deokar, Mhorkya is slated for release on 24 January.
