While Gully Boy won the Best Cinematography, Background Score, and Production Design, the Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff starrer predictably won the Best Action award for the year.
Uri, Gully Boy, War win big at the 65th Filmfare technical awards

The 65th Filmfare awards kicked off their annual celebrations with the announcement of the winners of the technical awards late on Sunday, 2 February, in Mumbai. Some of the major winners included Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy (2019), Tiger Shroff-Hrithik Roshan-starrer War (2019), and Vicky Kaushal's war heroics in Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019).
The annual awards have been moved away from the traditional home ground of Mumbai to Guwahati, Assam, for the first time in the history of the awards.
Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy was among the big winners, taking home the trifecta of Best Cinematography, Background Score, and Production Design. While Jay Oza won the first award, the Background Score went to Karsh Kale and The Savage Collective, while Suzanne Caplan Merwanji won the third trophy.
The action drama, War, also went home with two predictable wins. The film was nominated for, and won, Best Action (Paul Jennings, Oh Sea Young, Parvez Shaikh and Franz Spilhaus) and Best VFX (Sherry Bharda And Vishal Anand For YFX).
Abhishek Chaubey's Sonchiriya (2019) also walked home with Best Costume (Divvya Gambhir and Niddhi Gambhir).
The other action drama in contention, Uri: The Surgical Strike, won Best Editing (Shivkumar V Panicker) and Best Sound Design (Bishwadeep Dipak Chatterjee and Nihar Ranjan Samal).
The Anurag Kashyap-backed short film, Bebaak by Shazia Iqbal, won the Best Short Film in Fiction award. The film's lead actress, Sarah Hashmi, also won the award for Best Actor Female. Ananth Narayan Mahadevan's Village of A Lesser God, won the Best Short Film in Non-Fiction award, and Rajesh Sharma won the award for Best Actor Male for his performance in Tindey.
The People's Choice for Best Short Film was given to Deshi, and a special award has been given to designer Manish Malhotra for 30 years of 'Outstanding contribution to Bollywood fashion.'
The 65th Filmfare awards are set to take place in Guwahati, Assam on 15 February 2020.
