Actor-producer Prosenjit Chatterjee will be working with National award-winning director Kaushik Ganguly for the fourth time in the upcoming film Kaberi Anatardhan, with Srabanti Chatterjee in the lead. It will be the actress's first feature film with Ganguly, and also mark the return of Prosenjit and Srabanti on screen together. The last time they appeared together, the actress was a child artiste. The actor also promised that both Srabanti and he would be seen in new avatars in the movie.

Kaberi Antardhan is a romantic thriller set during Emergency. Prosenjit plays an artiste, Arghya in the movie. It tells the story of common people from a small town in North Bengal, surrounded by tea-gardens and hills. The film also features Churni Ganguly, Kaushik Sen, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Indrasish Roy and the director himself in crucial roles.

Some journalists had spread the news that Prosenjit plays a villain in the film, but Ganguly cleared the air on this. Speaking about it, the actor said, “I don’t think I need to remind people that Kaushik’s films are a bit different and they deal with sensitive subjects. Also, his characters are never black and white. They are common people with a lot of grey elements in them.”

The actor said he recalled telling his director that no matter how hard they try to keep the film under wraps, journalists are bound to get wind of it. “I think the journalists have done their job. Yes, sometimes they get it wrong, but without their support it would be difficult for us to go ahead with our projects,” he added.

Prosenjit had earlier said that the romantic thriller would unfold during a period of political unrest. It will reveal the play of common human emotions when the socio-political context remains extremely volatile.

“The film is set during an important period of history, hence, it is important for me too. In the last year, Kaushik’s film Jyeshthoputro (2019) turned out to be one of the most important films of my career,” added the popular actor. Chatterjee’s first film with Ganguly, Drishtikone (2018), was also a romantic thriller, but according to the actor, there is no similarity between the two.

Expressing his excitement at the prospect of working with Srabanti, the actor recalled a memory from the sets of Mayar Badhon (1997), in which the actress was a child artiste. “I have a photo of the moment too. I remember, between shoots, Srabanti would be lulled into sleep in someone's lap. And just before the shot, she would be woken up," he reminisced.

"We (Prosenjit and Srabanti) often talk about how the lines categorising mainstream, commercial and arthouse films is getting blurred these days. I am very happy about it,” said the actor. “When the next generation takes this trend ahead, I will feel proud to have contributed to it in my own way,” he added. The actor feels that each generation needs to redefine them for itself.

“For this, we need to do a lot of hard work. I firmly believe that every actor needs to consider their directors as their guru for the duration of the film," stated the actor, who has done close to 300 films so far. Prosenjit said that he has maintained this practise with his directors like Swapan Saha, Haranath Chakraborty, Rituparno Ghosh, Ganguly, Srijit Mukherjee, as well as all the contemporary directors.

While Srabanti has mostly been part of mainstream films, Prosenjit managed to break away from stereotypical films once he started working with Ghosh. “They will find a new Srabanti and Prosenjit in Kaberi Antardhan. As actors, we harbour the passion of finding ourselves in new avatars, and the rest will be revealed by the film itself," he said.  The actor, however, did not disclose any details of his chemistry with Srabanti in the movie.

The shooting of Kaberi Antardhan has already begun in North Bengal. The film will release at the end of this year or in the beginning of 2021.
