After the success of their debut film Sanjhbati (2019), Bengal Talkies have announced their upcoming film Tonic (2020), directed by Avijit Sen. Tonic will feature Dev Adhikari, who also played the lead in Sanjhbati, along with Paran Bandopadhyay, Shakuntala Barua, and Koneenica Bandopadhyay.

In the upcoming film, Bandopadhyay essays the role of an elderly man, who faces life's ups and downs in order to celebrate his special day in a unique manner. In the poster and still, Bandopadhyay and Adhikari can be seen having fun while kayaking in the river.

From the cast and the outline of the story, Tonic seems to be a humorous tale on the journey of life and chronicles how Bandopadhyay succeeds in celebrating his special day. The film will be shot by Supriyo Dutta and Jeet Gannguli will compose the music of the film.

Sanjhbati, which also featured Soumitra Chatterjee, Lily Chakraborty and Paoli Dam, told the story of the plight of elderly parents, who are mostly ignored by their children, who have relocated for work.

Producer Atanu Ray Choudhury stated, “After the grand success of Sanjhbati, we are glad to associate with Dev again for this film. The film is replete with sublime humour and will leave a social message on a strong note too.”

Tonic is slated for release on 8 May.
