Director Neeraj Pandey is set to make his digital debut with a new web-series for Hotstar titled Special Ops. Pandey will co-direct the web-series with Naam Shabana (2017) director Shivam Nair. The cast for the web-series includes Saiyami Kher, Kay Kay Menon, Divya Dutta, Vinay Pathak and Sharad Kelkar.

While an initial report about the filmmaker collaborating with Hotstar had emerged back in 2019, there had been no information about the subject Pandey would be working on.

Confirming the report, Saiyami Kher tweeted: 'Up next — Special Ops! Directed by the amazing Neeraj Pandey. He was always on my wish list after I watched A Wednesday! Glad I could be a part of this project. Coming soon. Stay tuned for more updates!'

In a statement to the IANS news agency, Pandey said, "We have been at the forefront of creating genre-defining content and are excited to collaborate with Hotstar Specials to produce our first digital series Special Ops.

"With a special attention to writing, we have tried to recreate real-life events that have affected our lives over the past few years. We are certain that audiences will find themselves gripped by the plot and will follow the intriguing story till the end."

The web-series is reportedly based on events with international significance that took place over a period of 19 years across the world. With shooting schedules across five countries, including Turkey, Azerbaijan and Jordan, the series is likely to have the signature style of Pandey's films.

Earlier, Pandey had directed the Sidharth Malhotra-Manoj Bajpayee thriller Aiyaary (2018). The director had also signed on with Ajay Devgn for a biopic of Chanakya back in 2019.

Special Ops will be produced by the digital arm of Friday Film Works, Friday Storytellers, with Pandey and Shital Bhatia heading it. Pandey will also be writing the series with Deepak Kingrani and Benazir Ali Fida.
