Remaking a National award-winning film requires courage more than anything else. Shekkhar Suri has taken up an even more challenging task of remaking Vetrimaaran's 2007 hit, Polladhavan, into a gun-slinging gangster drama set in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
Featuring Karann Nathh, Guns Of Banaras has the machismo and dialogues marked down in the trailer, but whether it captures the intensity of the original remains to be seen.
As the trailer begins, Guddu (Nathh), a brash young resident of the city, runs into serious trouble when he files a case against Vikram Singh (Ganesh Venkatraman). The latter is the younger brother of the ruling mafia warlord played by Abhimanyu Singh. This puts Guddu in the crosshairs of the mafia. Cue a street fight that is filled with heroic action moments needed to pull in the audience.
The trailer also captures the romantic track between Guddu and the girl next door played by Nathalia. While the trailer has pace and is filled with visuals of bloody action, it lacks the dramatic depth and intensity that set Vetrimaaran's Polladhavan apart. Perhaps it also requires more nuanced dialogue delivery. It remains to be seen if Nathh can pull it off.
The film is set for release on 28 February. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
