It is not for nothing that Kirti Kulhari has referred to the second season of the Disney+ Hotstar web-series Criminal Justice — the trailer of which was released on Wednesday — as a 'whydunit' instead of a whodunit.

Right at the start of the trailer, the actress’ character, Anu Chandra, is seen murdering her husband Bikram Chandra (Jisshu Sengupta), a renowned lawyer, in cold blood, and she even confesses to her crime.

With no lawyer worth their salt willing to defend the woman, Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Tripathi), who is struggling to land a big case, jumps at the opportunity. He is helped by his friend and fellow lawyer Nikhat Hussain (Anupriya Goenka).

The follow-up to the first season of Criminal Justice piques one's curiosity with its unique premise.

Kulhari appears convincing as a reticent killer while Mishra, who was probably the most interesting and entertaining character in the first season, whets his fans' appetite with his quips.

This season, which has been directed by Rohan Sippy and Arjun Mukerjee, will see new faces such as Shilpa Shukla, Ashish Vidyarthi, Deepti Naval, Kalyanee Mulay, Ayaz Khan and Pankaj Saraswat.

The previous season, which was helmed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and Vishal Furia, saw Vikrant Massey play a cab driver, who is accused of the murder of a female passenger (Madhurima Roy).

The second season of Criminal Justice, an adaptation of the UK crime show of the same name, will be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar from 24 December.

Check out the trailer and let us know if you are keen on watching the series.
