Director Raj Chakraborty lost his father today, two days after the latter tested positive for COVID-19.

Krishnashankar Chakraborty had been admitted to hospital earlier this month with a heart ailment. On 17 August, the director tweeted that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, but his father’s report was negative.

A day later, Chakraborty confirmed that his wife, actress Subhasree Ganguly, who is in an advanced stage of pregnancy, and the rest of the family had also tested negative.

Chakraborty has been quarantined at home since his test and was supposed to meet his family after a COVID-19 test to be conducted today. A few days ago, he also noted that his father's condition was improving in hospital.

However, two days ago social media was agog with reports that the senior Chakraborty had tested positive for COVID-19. While Raj did not confirm this, reports in the Anandabazar Patrika newspaper and some other media outlets did.

Following the government's pandemic-prevention rules, Krishnashankar Chakraborty's last rites will be performed today. Raj Chakraborty, given his own COVID-19-positive status, will not be able to attend.
