Subodh Bhave-starrer Vijeta to be released again after the lockdown is lifted

The sports drama, which also stars Pooja Sawant, was released at a time when the coronavirus threat was emerging in India.

The Subodh Bhave-starrer Vijeta was released on 13 March. Unfortunately, later that day onwards, cinema halls in major parts of Maharashtra were shut down on account of the growing coronavirus threat. Three days later, all theatres across India were shut for the same reason. And eight days later, the entire country was put under a lockdown. Vijeta, therefore, could hardly have a decent theatrical run.

But the producers of the film, Subhash Ghai’s Mukta Arts, have decided to re-release the film when the lockdown is lifted, Rahul Puri, managing director of the banner, told Cinestaan.com.

“Vijeta was released on the day that theatres were closed by the government of Maharashtra, so we decided to pull the film from theatres,” said Puri. “We will surely release it again when this is all over. Other projects were in development and as of now we have continued to develop these over online discussions.”

Puri is sure that there will be an audience for Vijeta once the lockdown is over. “There was a good buzz for the film and reviews were also positive. I think people will be waiting for the film to come back when the all-clear is given,” he said.

Directed by Amol Shetge, Vijeta is a sports drama where Subodh Bhave plays a coach. The film also stars Pooja Sawant, Sushant Shelar, Manasi Kulkarni, Madhav Deochake and a host of other artistes.
