In the past few years, Ali Fazal has tried to change up the type of roles he does with films like Milan Talkies (2019) and Prassthanam (2019), and of course, his role as gangster Guddu Bhaiyya on the Amazon Prime web-series Mirzapur. For his next project, the actor is reuniting with his Mirzapur director and cinematographer for a change of pace in a romantic music video titled 'Aaj Bhi'.

The actor will be seen opposite actress Surbhi Jyoti in the video sung by Vishal Mishra, who was part of the hit soundtrack for Kabir Singh last year. Mirzapur creator Gurmmeet Singh is directing the number for Vryl Originals.

Talking about the track, Ali said, “It’s the first time I am working with Surbhi and Vishal. It’s been super interesting. I loved interacting with Vishal. He has such a mesmerising voice. He has a soulful singing quality. Vishal and I bonded over our Lucknow connect. Surbhi is super cool and we kept chatting about movies and food. The four days in Chandigarh was such a blast.”

“The Mirzapur team is home for me and with Guru and Sanjay [Kapoor] (the DOP) being there, this was a reunion for us," he added. "[The] last few years, I have spent so much time working with Guru that we get each other’s vibes and cues. The direction that Gurmmeet brought in to this is a zone he and I have never explored together. It was an experience that was truly enjoyable.

"In a span of three minutes, we’ve told an entire story and told it well. As an actor it’s hard to pull this off. I have never been so excited about a music video but this song is so genuine. It evokes a feeling that everyone at some point or the other goes through. It’s a unique take on unrequited love. There’s a certain purity in how it plays out,” he said.

The video is due to be released online on 9 April. The second season of Mirzapur is also expected to premiere later this year.
