Amitabh Bachchan backs scheme to support one lakh daily-wager families

Veteran actor Bachchan has partnered with Sony Pictures Networks India and Kalyan Jewellers for the initiative to fund the monthly rations of the families.

Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan is promoting a scheme to support one lakh families of daily-wage workers from the film industry affiliated to the All-India Film Employees Confederation, in association with Sony Pictures Networks India and Kalyan Jewellers.

An official statement from Sony Pictures Networks India said, 'Given the unprecedented nature of the situation we are in, an initiative undertaken by Mr Bachchan, We Are One, has been supported by Sony Pictures Networks India and Kalyan Jewellers, through which the monthly ration of one lakh households across the country will be funded.'

Explaining the process, the statement said, 'Through a commercial tie-up with a leading chain of hypermarkets and grocery stores in India, digitally barcoded coupons have been distributed to a verified list of workers from the All-India Film Employees' Confederation. Furthermore, monetary help has been extended to those in need.'

Earlier in the week, Bachchan, along with a number of stars from the Indian film industry, became part of a short film made by Sony Pictures Networks India titled Family. The film spoke of the importance of being at home in order to combat the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Recently, Salman Khan also pledged to support 25,000 daily-wage workers from the film industry.
