Better to be scared and stay at home, urges Salman in a video message

Life, as we know it, has come to a standstill because of the global coronavirus pandemic. With the lockdown currently in place in India, and social distancing being the mantra of the day, people all across the country are homebound. But a lot of people are still seen loitering around the streets in various parts of the country. 

This has compelled actor Salman Khan to release a video message on Twitter, where he is seen urging the people of India to stay indoors. The actor is seen with brother Sohail Khan’s son, Nirvan, in the video. 

Khan cited his father’s famous dialogue from Sholay (1975) - “Jo darr gaya, woh mar gaya.” [The one who gets scared is finished]. However, he pointed out that in the current circumstances, this dialogue does not apply. In fact, it is better not to act brave and step outside because of the risk of being infected with coronavirus.

Khan and Nirvan are stuck at their farmhouse in Panvel for the last three weeks, as travelling to and from the city is banned for the time being. Both of them said that hadn't seen their respective fathers since then. 

Khan’s video comes in the wake of people across the country misunderstanding prime minister Narendra Modi’s message by coming out on the streets last night in large groups, with torches and candles, thereby violating the social distancing norm. The PM had only asked people to light lamps and torches in the balconies, doors and windows of their homes. 

People across India had also violated the social distancing norm on 22 March, the day of the Janta Curfew.
