Coronavirus update: Irrfan Khan's Angrezi Medium begins streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, may not return to theatres

The film, which also stars Radhika Madan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, was released in theatres on 13 March but had to be pulled out owing to the countywide shutdown.

Homi Adajania’s film Angrezi Medium (2020) is being streamed on the OTT platform Disney+ on Hotstar VIP from today. Featuring Irrfan Khan, Radhika Madan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Deepak Dobriyal in pivotal roles, the film is a follow-up to the hit Hindi Medium (2017), which was directed by Saket Chaudhary.

The news was shared by the producers, Maddock Films, on their official Twitter page. “Hop on to the dreamy roller-coaster ride with this father-daughter duo as we bring to you the World Digital Premiere of Angrezi Medium only on Disney+ Hotstar,” said the tweet.

Angrezi Medium was released in theatres all over the country on 13 March. Unfortunately, the film's release coincided with the coronavirus pandemic hitting India, forcing cinema halls shut from 17 March. A week later, the entire country was put under lockdown.

Despite generating a lot of buzz and good word-of-mouth publicity, Angrezi Medium could only muster Rs9.35 crore nett at the box office in its truncated run.

There were unconfirmed reports last month about the possibility of the film being released in theatres again once the lockdown is over, but there was no official confirmation from the producers. Now that the film is being shown online, that possibility seems to have ended.
