The sequels to popular Tamil films, Soodhu Kavvum (2013), Thegidi (2014) and Maayavan (2017), which have been on the cards for a while, were finally announced. Thirukumaran Entertainments, the makers of all three films, confirmed the sequels on a Twitter post.

“All the three scripts (Soodhu Kavvum, Maayavan and Thegidi) are in the finishing stage. Will update soon with all details,” a tweet from Thirukumaran Entertainments recently read.

The company has also confirmed that its ready to go on the floors with the sequel to Indru Netru Naalai (2015). In a later tweet, the production company added that Indru Netru Naalai 2’s script is "almost done and pre-production will start once the lockdown ends."

Soodhu Kavvum, which catapulted Vijay Sethupathi to stardom, also starred Ashok Selvan, Sanchita Shetty and Ramesh Thilak. The film was about a wannabe gang leader and a group of misfit kidnappers. Thegidi also featured Selvan, but in the role of a private investigator. The film was a well-executed investigative thriller, co-starring Janani Iyer.

Maayavan, on the other hand, marked the directorial debut of CV Kumar, the man behind Thirukumaran Entertainments. The premise of Maayavan revolved around the concept of immortality and how human beings can transfer their soul to another body and never leave this world, through the use advanced technology.

Despite pleasing the critics with its out-of-the-box concept, the film was a box-office dud. Nevertheless, the film earned Kumar praise from all sections of the audience for his overall effort.
