The Hindi film industry is currently in hibernation following the lockdown brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. This has spurred several rumours about many projects which are currently on hold. One of them being Karan Johar's upcoming Takht. After several reports suggested that Fox Star Studios have fallen out with Dharma Productions over the massive project, Johar made a statement, dismissing the reports as baseless.

In the statement, the director asked media houses to "focus on more relevant and important issues," while calling the rumours surrounding the project "baseless."

A multi-starrer, the film features an impressive cast of Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, with Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal in the lead. Directed by Johar, the film will revolve around the clash between Aurangzeb and his brother Dara Shikoh for the Mughal throne.

After the announcement of the lockdown, there were rumours suggesting a rift between the key producing partners, Fox Star Studios and Dharma Productions. A recent report by BollywoodHungama.com suggested that Dharma productions might team up with Bhushan Kumar's T-Series for the same project.

The Takht teaser was released in February 2020, and the film was scheduled to be released on 24 December 2021. However, with the lockdown in place, the film is yet to go on the floors and is likely to face further delays.
