Tamil film actor Mano was killed in a car accident in Chennai on Monday. His wife Liviya sustained grievous injuries and is currently battling for life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a local hospital. The two have a daughter aged seven.

The accident took place at around 7pm when the couple was returning to Chennai from Guduvancherry. Mano was at the wheel when the car ran off the road and into a barricade near an engineering college. He was killed on the spot. "It appears that the road was dark as there were not many streetlights,” Murali, a friend of Mano, told The Hindu newspaper.

A police officer investigating the accident told The Times of India newspaper, “The road has a curve on the stretch near Morai. Mano failed to judge the speed of the car and the slope. Due to the high speed, he must have lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the barricade by the side of the road.”

John, a public relations executive associated with the Southern film industry, shared news of Mano's death on Twitter. He wrote, “Multi-talented actor Mano died in an accident near Avadi. His wife is in Ramachandra hospital ICU.She is under treatement. Shocking to hear the news."

Mano was one of the leads in the Tamil film Puzhal (2010), which was directed by Azhagu. He was known more for his stints in television reality shows. He was also a mimicry artist and did a lot of stage shows.
