On Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary yesterday, 2 October, the announcement of the Hindi film Savarkar Haazir Ho! was made by the producers Aai Shree Bhagvatidevi Productions. According to the makers, the film is about both Gandhi and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

The producers claim that the film will be accepted by the followers of both the personalities. “The film is expected to be a rare eye-opener for not only aficionados of films, but also students and ardent admirers and followers of both Gandhiji as well as Savarkar,” said an official statement from them.

Savarkar and Gandhi belonged to two conflicting ideologies. Savarkar was a critic of Gandhian ideologies. He was also accused of being the co-conspirator in Gandhi's assassination carried out by Nathuram Godse.

Savarkar Haazir Ho! marks the debut of Dyaneshwar Margaj as a writer, director and producer. He has written and directed Marathi television serials like Ek Wada Zapatlela and Nivdung. The names of the actors playing Gandhi and Savarkar are currently kept under wraps.

The makers have released the poster of the film which creatively shows Savarkar against the silhouette of Gandhi.

The film will go on floors at the end of this month. Interestingly, Savarkar Haazir Ho will be released on 30 January 2020, the day on which Gandhi was assassinated by Godse.

A few years ago, a Marathi film titled What About Savarkar? (2015) had released. It was about a young man obsessed with Savarkar. He plans to teach a central minister a lesson for calling Savarkar anti-national.
