Fatteshikast song ‘Hechi Vel Deva Naka’: Shivaji surrenders himself to Saint Tukaram’s abhang

Singer Avadhoot Gandhi yields himself to the poetry and emerges victorious by giving his heart and soul to the number.

Keyur Seta

Shivaji is known for being the symbol of bravery. His physical, as well as analytical ability, proved to be lethal for many of his enemies. But even the bravest of warriors, at times, need guidance and blessings of God when faced with a gigantic task. After all, they are humans too.

The song ‘Hechi Vel Deva Naka’ from the upcoming Marathi movie Fatteshikast (2019) arrives in the film when Shivaji (Chinmay Mandlekar), his near and dear ones, including mother Jijabai (Mrinal Kulkarni), and his large army offer sincere prayers to God in order to emerge victorious in a challenging battle ahead of them.

‘Hechi Vel Deva Naka’ is a Marathi abhang (devotional song) written by the great Saint Tukaram for Lord Vitthal. It instantly connects, especially if you prefer devotional songs or get mesmerised by the music performed by the Varkaris [worshippers of Lord Vitthal]. But even if you are not, the situation ensures that the song creates the desired effect, in a similar way how ‘O Paalanhaare’ from Lagaan (2001) did.

Composer Devdutta Manisha Baji has created tunes that gel well with Tukaram’s age old poetry. Singer Avadhoot Gandhi yields himself to the poetry and emerges victorious by giving his heart and soul to the number.

Directed by Digpal Lanjekar, Fatteshikast will be releasing on 15 November. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
