Director Abhishek Pathak’s Ujda Chaman managed to earn Rs10.25 crore nett in its first week, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. Starring Sunny Singh Nijjar and Maanvi Gagroo, the film is about issues faced by a man because of premature balding.
Ujda Chaman had made Rs7.25 crore nett in its opening weekend. But the film saw a fall in collections on Monday and from there its numbers have been declining.
Usually, a collection of Rs10.25 crore nett in the first week would be considered poor. But in this case it can be called average since the film itself was made on a very low budget of around Rs10 crore. It still needs to cover some distance to become a safe bet for the producers.
But the road from here on will be challenging for Ujda Chaman because Ayushmann Khurrana’s Bala (2019), which revolves around the same theme of a man bedevilled by the problem of premature balding, was also released today.
Meanwhile, Saand Ki Aankh, starring Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar, made Rs8.55 crore nett in its second week, taking its total to Rs20.45 crore. The drop in collections in the second week has not been much, but that is small comfort for the Anurag Kashyap production because its first-week collection had not been good, with a meagre Rs11.90 crore nett despite being released on Diwali.
Housefull 4, which was also released during Diwali, made Rs48.75 crore nett in its second week. The film’s overall total now stands at an impressive Rs184.61 crore nett.
Both Saand Ki Aankh and Housefull 4 will also be affected by the release of Bala.
